Etmaal 7
vrijdag 29 juni
En dat
hebben we geweten. Na middernacht zaten we in een gebied met nogal wat
scheepswrakken, en dat trekt vis aan dus ook visserschepen. Op de AIS was hun
koers goed te volgen en we hoefden niets te ondernemen.
Ook zagen
we de driemast bark Europa die afgemeerd lag aan de kade in Horta en een Spaans
trainingsschip, de viermaster JS Eleano. Deze riep ons op om hem ruimte te
geven, ondanks dat hij oploper was.Wij gingen net even sneller en konden
voorlangs passeren.,
Vandaag
trouwens een kort verslagje: we kregen een berisping van de sailmail: we
gebruiken teveel radiotijd! Ja, want we willen graag op de hoogte blijven van
de weersvoorspelling en hoe de medezeilers het maken plus ons eigen verslag.
Alles wel
aan boord, Henk opgeknapt, Sietske aktief als altijd: aas maken voor de
vislijnen, ramen wassen voor beter uitzicht, ikzelf heb flinke keelpijn en kon
daarom niet deelnemen aan het radionetje, trouwens de anderen konden we wel
horen praten maar niets verstaan.
De wind is
gekalmeerd, de golven zijn beduidend lager nu. We hesen om 07.00 het grootzeil
weer en lieten 1 rif staan, de fok vervangen door uitgeboomde genua om 12.00.
De zon schijnt, de nacht was schitterend zowel in het water als de
sterrenhemel. Het leven is mooi.

Day 7,
Friday June 29
Fish is
attracted to wrecks and fishermen to fish: we were in the middle of them during
the night. On our AIS we could see their positions and tracks and we needn't
undertake anything.
We saw the
three mast bark Europa that we saw in Horta, and the four mast training ship JS
Eleano under sail. They hailed us on the VHF to give way to them, even though
they were in the 22.5 degrees range behind us. We were faster and passed ahead
of them.
Today I
will have to be short: sailmail warned us, we are using too much radio time.
True, because we need to get the weather forecasts, send our blog and receive
news from the other sailors going the same way.
All is well
on board: Henk is fine, Sietske is active as always, creating new lures for the
lines and cleaning the windows for better visibility. I have a sore throat and
therefore didn't participate in the radio net this morning. We could hear the
others talk but not make out what they were saying anyway.
The wind
has calmed down and so have the waves. At 7 a.m. we hoisted the mainsail again,
left 1 reef in. At noon we rolled in the jib and boomed out the genoa. The sun
is shining, the night was full of sparkles: both in the water and in the clear
sky. Life is good.
